This Terrifying Movie Just Broke the Horror Kickstarter Funding Record
There's a new king of horror on Kickstarter.
Horror is one of the most reliable genres when it comes to a fervent audience. People are always excited to sit down and be part of the roller coaster of emotions. That's probably why this past weekend, they crowned a new horror king of Kickstarter.
A project called Shelby Oaks has become the most-funded horror film project on the platform, just a few weeks into its campaign. Right now, it has almost tripled its intended budget, with $700K and counting.
Written and to be directed by YouTube film critic/filmmaker Chris Stuckmann, the story is based on a recent Internet mystery about a group of paranormal investigators that go missing.
According to the website, this is the synopsis:
Shot as a traditional feature, but with some elements of found footage, Shelby Oaks is a horror film about missing paranormal investigators (the paranormal paranoids), the dark legacy they uncovered, and the far-reaching effects their investigation has as Mia searches for her sister Riley, the lead paranormal investigator, 12 years later."
Aaron B. Koontz of Paper Street Pictures is producing the film.
“Every dollar we are raising is going onto the screen,” Koontz told Deadline. “This is an ambitious script and day by day our scope and opportunities to help realize Chris’ vision become more and more tangible all because of this campaign. We knew we had something special, but this outpour of support has been absolutely humbling and so amazing to see.”
The project plans to interact with and involve those who have pledged money, making them a part of the story as well.
Koontz adds, “I’m really excited to pull the curtain back and show the ups and downs of how an indie film really gets made. This isn’t a 'raise funds and then we leave everyone behind to go make it.' We want to create a community that can come along with us on the journey.”
If you're a fan of horror, check out their Kickstarter. It's well laid out and delivers great information on where your money will go, as well as how you get to be a part of the project.
