It is undeniable that many of the spirits we see in haunted locations are clearly trapped in our world. Unable to move on, though no longer alive, they simply wander aimlessly, terrorize passersby or possibly even more.
However, are some spirits simply passing between lives? Reincarnation, whether you are spiritual or not, has held a place in common belief for centuries, if not millennia. It is the idea that when you die, for better or for worse, you will return back to life in a different body - leading a new life.
Many have tried to prove the existence of this phenomenon using techniques such as hypnotherapy to regress people into their past-life memories. For example, one such hypnotherapist, Dr. Michael Newton, performed interviews with over 50 patients, learning that people seemed to retain memories of another existence, though were reluctant to talk about it (even though they were hypnotized).
A past life in real life
A story surfaced recently from the US that shows how a young boy, no older than five, seems to have been able to recall his own past life … as a Chicago woman.
"He used to say: 'When I was a girl, I had black hair,'' or he would say, 'I used to have earrings like that when I was a girl," his mother, Erika Ruehlman, told reporters.
You see, the young boy, Luke, fully believed that he had once been a woman called Pam, who lived in Chicago. Somehow he was able to recall details about the woman's untimely death that he should not have known. For example, he would tell people that this 'Pam' died in a fire when she was 30 years old.
After digging into local records, Ms. Ruehlman discovered that one Pam Robinson had indeed existed, and died in a tragic fire in 1993. When confronted with a series of photos of similar-looking women from the same time, Luke picked out a picture of Ms. Robinson immediately.
