10 Famous Halloween Characters that Terrifies Everyone
Halloween is just right around the corner, which means, we get to watch scary movies, and ghouls and other scary things that can finally go out and play. There are a lot of scary movies out there, some that stick with you in your nightmares and others you just love to peek through your fingers at while shrieking in glee — or maybe even dress up for Halloween. Here are some famous terrifying characters to watch out for.
1. Michael Myers
After murdering his sister on Halloween night when he was just six years old, Michael Myers returns to the town of Haddonfield, Illinois, and starts a killing spree that will last for decades. Myers first appeared in John Carpenter's film Halloween in 1978.
2. Jason Vorhees
Seeking revenge for his mother's death, Jason returns to Camp Crystal Lake to slaughter the counselors one by one. Jason first appeared in the film Friday the 13th in 1980.
3. Leatherface
Inspired by the real-life killer Ed Gein, Leatherface hunts down his victims and wears their skin as a mask. He also makes furniture out of his victims’ skin. He first appeared in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 1974.
4. Chucky
“Hi, I’m Chucky! Wanna play?” This phrase has got to be every kid’s nightmare. Though he appears to be a cute toy, Chucky is actually a serial killer who used voodoo to transfer his soul into a doll. This doll first appeared in the film Child’s Play in 1988.
5. Pennywise the Dancing Clown
Pennywise haunted the children in the town of Derry, Maine in the 1990 film It, which is based on Stephen King's book of the same name. He baits children (or anyone) into the sewers with tricks and toys only to drive them into insanity, or worse, kill and eat them.
6. Freddy Krueger
This terrifying character haunts the dreams of neighborhood teenagers, growing more powerful, the more frightened they become and eventually kills them. Krueger first appeared in Wes Craven's horror masterpiece A Nightmare on Elm Street in 1984.
7. Jack Torrance
Jack Torrance starts the film innocently enough, taking the job as caretaker at the Overlook hotel, but he soon becomes an ax-wielding maniac driven to murder by insanity. He first appeared in the 1980 film The Shining, based on Stephen King's book of the same name.
8. Ghostface
Anyone who sees the blacks of Ghostface's eyes typically ends up with a butcher knife (or any knife for that matter) in their guts. He first appeared in the 1996 film Scream, but his iconic mask has been worn by many copy-cat killers in the film's sequels.
9. Billy the Puppet
Riding a tricycle, Billy was used to communicating with his test subjects by delivering recorded messages, often appearing on a television screen or occasionally in person to describe the details of the traps and how the test subjects could survive. He first appeared in the film Saw in 2003.
10. SlenderMan
The Slender Man, also known as Slenderman or just plain “Slendy,” is a thoroughly modern monster. Its story got its start within living memory, with a 2009 post to the Something Awful forum. Forum user Victor Surge (Eric Knudsen) responded to a call for creepy photographs by grafting grainy images of a tall, skinny man with no face into pictures of children playing.
